Hey folks current water temps were 52-56 degrees depending on lake location. For the bass I have been focusing on creek channel edges in the 8-16′ range. Thing to look for on the creek edges are exposed root wads right on the edges or creek bends. These areas are going to hold a majority of the fish in the creeks. I will scan them with my live scope to verify the fish are there prior to fishing these spots.
Another good pattern is locating fallen trees that are still in tact in the same depth ranges. The fallen tree pattern will be more hit and miss but can be very rewarding. Another good pattern I will look at on warm sunny days are boat ramps. I am fishing all these areas with mostly a small profile jig. I recommend the V&M Adrenaline jig in 3/8 black and blue and a zoom chunk trailer. I choose this trailer this time of year because it is subtle with no “flippity” flap. Subtle is key in colder water which is why most of the time I am stitching my jigs. I am using Okuma’s Tournament concept 7’3″ jig rod paired with the Helios SX 8.1:1 reels and 20lbs Sunline.
Other good options in these same area is a Dropshot and a Jerkbait that is suspend dotted to sink at a very slow rate to get the bait in the strike zone. I will fish the jerkbait to about 14′ but you will need livescope to watch the bait and put it in the strike zone.
